The Alchemist

by Charles Dexter Ward

/

about

Tells the story "The Alchemist" by H.P. Lovecraft which was the first Lovecraft work I read.

song is in 5 sections, I feel that it's best all together and it is meant to be one track. so that's how I kept it

lyrics

I. Some Six Centuries: Instrumental

II. The Curse:

Studying magics to halt the hand of time
their arts black as night
Old Michel Le Mauvais and Charles Le Sorcier
a father and his son
Suspected of no ones crime the father was murdered
by a member of my line

The death of Mauvais over a child that was fine
Young Le Sorcier cursed our blood with a rhyme
May ne'er an heir of thy murderous line
Live to reach a greater age than thine

III. In Solitude Awaiting Death

In my solitude I study dark arts and the remnants of my home
Treading this fractured chateau, reading on my family's demise
Searching dark tomes of the arcane to find more on my lines curse

My caretaker, my companion, passed away. I am alone
Secluded from gossiping youth. Now I know the reason

I am cursed

My age nearing two and thirty with no heir to my name
No companion here for comfort, but this is what is best
I await my death in whatever form it holds

IV. The Alchemist

And so I wander my home
This old and crumbling abode
My death nearby awaiting
In what form will it take me?

In the fragmented chateau
A trap door leading below
Following and ancient passage
An oaken door on rusted hinges

I started to turn back and go, then heard a creaking telling me im not alone

A man was standing in the doorway
The look of despise on his aged face
The long dark beard of the wise
Two abyssal and soulless black eyes

His eyes filled with hate, talking of my fate
The upcoming date where Charles has his way

Charles stayed alive punishing the crime
Taking all their lives; who after his plight?

He held a phial to the sky. I threw my torch at him. He missed me as he burned alive.
And so he screamed in pain. It was too much for me. I fell to the ground in total feint.

V. Awakening/ Le Sorcier

I at last regained my senses and all was frightfully dark
Stilled stunned but curious, why did he seek another's revenge?

I desired to return, face averted from the corpse
I was surprised by a sound, as if life weren't fully gone
I turned to examine him, his black eyes then opened wide, blacker than his charred face
I trembled as I watched

The wretch with his last burst of strength screamed forth

Fool, can you not guess my secret? Have you no brain whereby you may recognize the will which has through six long centuries fulfilled the dreadful curse upon your house? Have I not told you of the great elixir of eternal life? Know you not how the secret of alchemy was solved? I tell you it is I, I, I, That have lived for six hundred years to maintain my revenge, for I am Charles Le Sorcier!
